Award-winning gospel singer and Oakland native Walter Hawkins dies
Walter Hawkins, a Grammy Award-winning gospel singer, composer and pastor from Oakland, died Sunday. He was 61. Hawkins, who was battling pancreatic cancer, passed away at his home in Ripon, Calif., his older brother Edwin Hawkins said.

Tahoe City crime: Bridgetender burglary suspect arrested, skips bail again
TAHOE CITY, Calif. - Authorities are searching for a man who skipped bail again after being arrested and charged with felony drug crimes and multiple burglaries, one of which occurred at the Bridgetender Tavern and Grill last August.Sgt. John Giovannini of the Placer County Sheriff's Office said James Linsey Polse, of Ripon, Calif., skipped bail after being arrested on a warrant by Ripon Police on May 1.Polse was first arrested at his home in Ripon, Calif., on March 24, Giovannini said, for allegedly being an accomplice with Tahoma resident Cody Pohl in the burglary of two safes at the Bridgetender Tavern and Grill on Aug. 15. Placer County detectives surveilled Polse at his Ripon home and apprehended him with the help of the Ripon Police department when he tried to flee.Polse skipped bail that time, too, Giovannini said.
